Here is the latest cool comic book moment in our year-long look at one cool comic book moment a day (in no particular order whatsoever)! Here's the archive of the moments posted so far!

Today we look a two-part look at a neat issue of Garth Ennis' recent Dan Dare mini-series...

Okay, so the gist of the story is that Dan Dare's old enemy, Mekon, is back and Dan Dare is called out of retirement to take control of the British Intergalactic Navy (or whatever it's called). On the way to taking his command, however, his escort ship hears an SOS from a local colony planet. This being Dan Dare, he is not going to let the cries for help of innocent people go unanswered, so he goes to the planet. He discovers that colonists are being killed by a giant demon-like creature. Dare manages to kill it, but not before he discovers that the colony is about to be besieged by hundreds of these creatures.

So now, in Dan Dare #3 (by Garth Ennis and artist Gary Erskine)...

Due to an electrical storm, only a few transport ships are able to escape - so about 200 people (50 marines and 150 civilians) are stuck waiting for a stampede of horrific demons...

Later, while waiting for the attack, Dare talks to an orphaned boy who lost both of his parents to the demon-y creature Dare killed last issue...

"The" moment was definitely Dare "firing" the jerk Captain, but I figured the little bit with the kid was worth sharing, as well.

Tomorrow we see what happens when the creatures arrive...
