All throughout May, I'll spotlight a different web comic. Like with the month of independent comics and the month of LGBT comics, I figure I will let you web comic creators out there suggest your comic for spotlight during this month. So if you want me to spotlight your comic, drop me a line at bcronin@comicbookresources.com!

Today we look at Kristina Stipetic's bittersweet romance comic, 14 Nights, which tells the story of a misanthropic man with one arm who falls in love with a sweet guy who, for yet unrevealed reasons (perhaps for unknown reasons even!), refuses to have sex ever. Stipetic uses a powerful, natural approach to telling this story (in other words, there is sex and profanity in this comic - so be forewarned before you read the preview pages!).

The lead in the book is Nikita, a chubby gay guy who lives with his younger sister and works at Public Health Services since it is the closest thing to the field where he WANTS to work (medical research). Nikita is a surly fellow who also happens to only have one hand.

After an awkward meeting, he is sent along with a new worker, Lucian, to give a talk to a local high school (about the wonders of antibiotics).

After Nikita very loudly mocks the students' ignorance (to the shock of the school), Lucian and Nikita have a moment afterwards...

They begin to grow close, and Nikita decides to end the "relationship" he is currently in, which is a "just sex"

Heres is a wonderful moment by Stipetic where she shows Nikita realize why his current relationship needs to end...

(naturally, he is turned down)

and why his new one can work...

(naturally, Lucian says yes)

What follows is a wonderfully handled courtship. It is adorable seeing the hardened defenses of Nikita against the world be slowly broken down by Lucian. Here's a perfect example of that...

Stipetic develops such a strong look for Nikita that his mood swings are such a delight to see (even when they swing towards anger).

In any event, as noted above, Lucian eventually tells Nikita that he won't ever be having sex. How do you think Nikita takes that?

Well, you should read the ongoing series (Stipetic has put up about 80 or so pages so far and is continuing to update with a page every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) to find out! It is worth it!
