This month I have been posting a review of a different self-published comic book each day for the whole month! Here is an archive of the books reviewed so far!

For the last day, I am featuring Geraniums and Bacon #5 by Cathy Leamy.

It is no mistake that this month began with Ryan Claytor and ended with Cathy Leamy, as I really enjoy both of their work a lot, so I thought they would make for nice bookends for the month.

I have a few issues of Geraniums and Bacon (#1 and 2, to be precise), Cathy Leamy's humor anthology mini-comic, but I've chosen #5 specifically to spotlight, because Leamy is clearly one of those creators who gets better as time goes on, so #5 is the strongest issue of Geraniums and Bacon yet. Leamy is a very effective storyteller who manages to make her lead characters (typically herself) incredibly endearing, making the misadventures of the various characters quite delightful.

In this issue, we get a whole pile of stories crammed into about sixteen pages (all for $2, shipping included!!).

In one of the tales, we see an amusing trip by Leamy to get a new bra...

In the lead story, Leamy goes to one of those Filene's Basement's deals where brides-to-be charge into a Filene's Basement's to get cheaper wedding dresses.

As you can see, as an artist, Leamy portrays a real charm to her work.

There is a very strong story about a couple and their "relationship" with their Jack O' Lantern, which was left on the fire escape by the previous tenants when they move into a new apartent. They end up just leaving it out there, and it soon becomes an elobrate, yet cute, in-joke between the two women. It's a really well-structured tale.

There's an off-beat story about a family uncovering a "Medieval Mecha Battle Suit" while digging in the yard.

Finally, there's an introspection-filled two pager where Leamy thinks about her life but gets distracted by one of life's great distractions.

All together, this was a really fun and well-written book.
