All throughout June, I'll spotlight a different web site about comic books.. Like with the month of independent comics, the month of LGBT comics and last month's month of webcomics, I figure I will let you comic book site/blog owners out there suggest your comic book web site (or blog) for spotlight during this month. So if you want me to spotlight your comic book site, drop me a line at bcronin@comicbookresources.com!

Today we look at Sketch Maven, an interesting original comic art website founded and managed by Mike Todasco.

Sketch Maven is an interesting site. It not only is a place where you can buy original comic book art, but you can also sell original comic book art. In addition, it is a very user-friendly site that seems almost geared towards the novice original comic book art buyer.

One of the interesting approaches of the site is that they stretch the term "original comic book art" to include the color guides used for the comics. A color guide is a photocopy of the original art which is then hand-colored by the colorist. These guides are unique parts of the production of a comic book, but are really "original comic book art" for the colorist, not the penciler. But as a result, they are also relatively cheap, typically around $20-30. So it is cool to get a unique part of a comic book production for not a lot of money.

Mike Todasco, who founded the site and also manages it, is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco.

Sketch Maven also has a series of spotlights and interviews with artists featured on the site. Here is a glimpse at that section of the site...
