Every day this month I’m going to feature a current comic book art “star,” someone whose work I absolutely love.
I’m mostly going to try to keep from the biggest names as much as possible, because, really, do I need to talk more about the awesomeness of JH Williams, Frank Quitely and Darwyn Cooke? Here‘s the archive of the artists mentioned so far!
I’m continuing with my “artists connected to Rick Remender” theme with the great Tony Moore.
Tony Moore got his start working with Robert Kirkman when both guys were still in Junior High.
They invented Battle Pope and the Brit together, but it was when they started on the Walking Dead that they really hit a stride.
Moore left the book after #6 to pursue other drawing opportunities, but continued on the covers until #24, and wow, they are some really cool covers.
Design is a strong suit for Moore.
I believe he got an Eisner nomination for best cover artist.
Moore then helped Remender create Fear Agent.
Here are some of his Fear Agent covers as well as some sequentials from a recent issue of the series.
I love the great expressions of Moore characters, as well as his ability to design characters well, have them express themselves AND draw dynamic action.
He then co-created The Exterminators for Vertigo.
Here are some sketches where Moore shows off his ability to work in different styles strikingly, as well!
Pretty darn good art.
See more of it at his website here (which is where all these samples came from)
