Every day this month I'm going to feature a current comic book art "star," someone whose work I absolutely love.

I'm mostly going to try to keep from the biggest names as much as possible, because, really, do I need to talk more about the awesomeness of JH Williams, Frank Quitely and Darwyn Cooke? Here's the archive of the artists mentioned so far!

Here's an artist who we're lucky enough to see return to one of her most acclaimed early works!

Becky Cloonan first came to my attention when she drew a Channel Zero mini-series with Brian Wood, but I was not prepared for her amazing work on Demo, a 12-issue maxi-series by Wood where each book featured a vastly different character.

Cloonan's ability to tell a brand-new story with each book was impressive enough, but Cloonan also managed to take on a different style for each issue, which was an amazing feat and added greatly to the artistry of Demo.

Since then, Cloonan has been working regularly (including her own series of graphic novels, East Coast Rising). She just came out with a self-published anthology with a few other artists called Pixu (she did an anthology with the same artists last year called 5 that won the Eisner this year for best anthology).

She was the regular artist on American Virgin during its relatively short run at Vertigo.

She has a great, evocative style.

Recently, it was announced that Cloonan and Wood are re-uniting for a new Demo series at Vertigo Comics.
