When a television series frequently features time travel, alternate timelines and alternate universes, a character's death doesn't necessarily have the usual feeling of finality. Take, for instance, Robbie Amell has who confirmed he'll reprise his role on "The Flash" as twice-killed Ronnie Raymond, or Black Flash, who'll return on multiple Arrowverse shows, possibly portrayed by a different actor.

Now we can add to the list Central City Police Detective Eddie Thawne after actor Rick Consett announced today that he's coming back to The CW drama.

The second half of this season will find Grant Gustin's Barry Allen racing to erase the oncoming death of Iris West (Candice Patton) while dealing with rogues like Gorilla Grodd and Music Meister. As if he didn't have enough going on, adding in Iris' former flame is going to keep The Flash running faster just to keep up.

A one-time series regular, Cosnett left "The Flash" when Eddie Thawne sacrifice himself in the Season One finale to save his friends' lives and prevent his villainous descendant Eobard Thawne from ever being born. The actor returned in the second season, when Barry traveled back in time to consult with "Dr. Wells" (aka Eobard Thawne).

How Eddie Thawne finds himself back in Star City remains to be seen. The show was recently renewed for a fourth season, and given the nature of the space-time continuum, the guest roles could keep coming for Cosnett.

Returning Tuesday, Jan. 24, on The CW, “The Flash” stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin and Keiynan Lonsdale.
