According to studio estimates released Sunday morning, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" was, as expected, the #1 film in theaters this weekend, selling an impressive $87 Million in box office receipts. Its closest competition was "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" with $15.3 million.

While not record breaking, nor did it match "Iron Man's" $100+ million opening the same weekend last year, it's still a very impressive launch for the first major debut of the Summer film season, especially considering a leaked version of the film found its way to the Internet more than a month before its bow at theaters. The question now will be what sort of legs "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" will have.

Next Friday sees the debut of the relaunched "Star Trek" franchise featuring an entirely new cast of young actors playing familiar roles. Second weekend results generally see receipts dropping anywhere from 50-65%, but with Hugh Jackman in the starring role and high interest among female movie goers, the drop off may not be as severe and could give "Star Trek" a run for its money.
