5 Hawkeye Costumes We Won't See On The Big Screen

Now that we've gotten a glimpse of Hawkeye's "Age of Ultron" duds, check out some of the archer's past fashion choices that are better left in his closet.

Judging by the last week's worth of news, it looks like Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye will get a bit more screentime in the 2015 sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Photos from the film's shoot in Italy surfaced, showing the Avenging archer fighting side by side with new recruits Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). The photos also caught a glimpse of the new look that Clint Barton is set to debut in the film. Draped in a form-fitting leather duster, Hawkeye looks a little bit more like his classic counterpart than he did in "Marvel's the Avengers." But even the coat's detractors have to agree that of all the fashion choices the big screen Hawkeye could make, a trench coat is the least egregious offense. Here are some Hawkeye outfits that are better left in the past.

The Armor

No matter how goofy Jeremy Renner looks during his hopefully many many onscreen appearances as Hakweye, fingers crossed he never looks as bad as Barton did back in the late '90s "Avengers: United They Stand" cartoon. This has to be one of the busiest costumes ever worn by a super hero, complete with metallic armor, purple accents and a bow that looks like it came straight from the Nerf factory.

The Goliath

With 2015's "Ant-Man" introducing the size-changing Pym Particles into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the odds are slightly more in favor of Hawkeye taking a swig of the super serum and becoming Goliath like he did back in the late '60s. If he does do that, odds are he won't be sporting this shirtless look. That's a shame, maybe, because whatever movie magic the costuming department would have to come up with to keep that mask in place could possibly earn them an award or two.

The '90s

There's a reason time keeps moving forward: it's so looks like this cease to make any sense. Divorced from the '90s pouch craze as well as the influence of early '90s Gambit cool, this look does not look cohesive nor does it read as Hawkeye in the slightest. Those white accent marks on the chest? The definitely-could-not-hold-arrows size of his pouches? Those cut-outs on his arm guard? It's a good thing Hawkeye ditched this look after the Clinton administration.

The Skirt

While it might be pleasing to some sections of the audience to see Jeremy Renner show a bit more skin -- after all, he was the most scantily clad Avenger next to the Hulk -- this costume would only make sense if the team starting going on adventures in ancient times via a holodeck-style training device. Plus there's the whole issue of fighting back evil forces while wearing a mini-skirt. Hawkeye infamous butt-slide maneuver in "Marvel's the Avengers" would have played out a lot differently had he been wearing this costume.

The Classic

We're not here to knock a costume as iconic as Hawkeye's go-to look, but you have to admit that most of this costume just would not make sense in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Buccaneer boots are much to showy for a low-key S.H.I.E.L.D. agent like Barton, and that mask is just out of the question; we know from every "Iron Man" poster that Marvel likes audiences to see the stars' faces. When it comes to Hawkeye's classic, loincloth-ed look, this new trench coat get-up might be the closest adaptation we'll ever get.
