A 1966 original daily Peanuts comic strip from fetched $26,450 at auction earlier this month, surpassing pre-sale estimates of between $15,000 and $20,000.

Featuring Peppermint Patty, Linus and Snoopy, the strip was the top-grossing item in a multi-estate auction held Jan. 18 in Lynbrook, New York, by Philip Weiss Auctions. The auction was devoted primarily to Golden Age comic books, sports memorabilia and comics art, along with some original Disney production cels and paintings.

Among the items were two items designed by Carl Barks -- a 6-feet-wide porcelain piece depicting Scrooge McDuck & Co. in a stretch limousine, and prototype statue of the Duck clan -- which sold for $13,800 each, and an original painting by Boris Vallejo used for the cover of the March 1974 Tales of the Zombie #4, which went for $7,763.

The auction house also noted the $9,488 purchase of a lower-grade, unrestored copy of Archie Comics #1, which it characterized as "one of the Holy Grails of comic books."A pair of original Peanuts Sunday strips, one signed by Charles Schulz, were sold in June by Philip Weiss Auctions for $78,200.
